PROMOTING MENTAL HEALTH THROUGH ART

Art has always been a powerful medium for expressing emotions and experiences that words alone cannot convey. It has the ability to inspire, uplift, and heal, making it a valuable tool for promoting mental health. Murals In Mind, a collection of digital performances based on 12 murals in St. Petersburg, FL, is a unique initiative that harnesses the power of art to promote mental well-being.

Murals In Mind was created by the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance and a team of creatives with the aim of providing a gallery of free digital performances for people to experience art and its therapeutic benefits. Each digital performance is unique and inspired by the corresponding mural, creating a symbiotic relationship between the two.

SAMPLES FROM THE GALLERY

One of the murals featured in Murals In Mind is “Nowness is the Portal” by artist Miss Crit. The digital performance inspired by this mural is a reading of a Anastasia Wirick poem by Bob Devin Jones. The performance, as well as the mural, aims to encourage visitors to reflect on the moments in life that ground us to the ‘here’ and ‘now’.

Another mural featured in Murals In Mind is “Pride & Love” by artist Jay Hoff. The corresponding digital performance is a simple conversation between Jay Hoff and his husband John Huls. They reflect on their own personal marriage story as well as share moments in life that bring them joy and reflection.

MENTAL HEALTH IS KEY

Murals In Mind is not only an innovative way to experience art, but it also serves as a reminder of the importance of mental health and well-being. In a world that can often be overwhelming and stressful, Murals In Mind offers a space for reflection, healing, and self-care.

If you’re in St Petersburg, be sure to check out Murals In Mind and experience the healing power of art for yourself.
